#GivingTuesdayNow

Introducing a Global Day of Giving

Originally conceived by nonprofits around the world as an antidote to the pre-holiday shopping extravaganzas of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is traditionally held as a day to support community organizations in November.

Now, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19, #GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that is taking place May 5, 2020.

In these anxious and uncertain days, Scissortail Park provides an outdoor green space to walk, get fresh air, enjoy spring beauty and find some respite from the news of the day.

As we have had to refrain from congregating at the Park over the last couple of months, we have offered digital outreach to keep our guests engaged and entertained. We created our new popular Scissortail Streams weekly concert series supporting local musicians, filmed walking tours of our 40,000 daffodil bulbs blooming, and conducted a video interview to meet the artists of our first major art installation at Scissortail Park. Check out the videos HERE.

In addition, we’ve been able to share the beautiful photos providing by the Park’s horticulturists and rangers to see how the plants and wildlife are growing and developing. Our Garden-in-Place program in conjunction with Myriad Botanical Gardens provided several thousand free seed kits through curbside pickup locations for kids to discover the joy and fascination of growing a small garden.

We understand there are many demands now for support as we, like many organizations, have had to close our revenue generating operations, including pedal boat rentals, festivals, rentals, food trucks, fundraising events, and more.

Scissortail Park was created through the MAPS 3 penny sales tax, and the Park is now operated and managed by its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit in partnership with the Oklahoma City Economic Development Trust.

Scissortail Park Foundation aspires to enhance the quality and sustain the legacy of the park – For Everyone – by encouraging charitable giving through generous donors to benefit Scissortail Park.

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on the generous support of individuals like you to help us maintain the Park for everyone, now more than ever.

If you are able to support Scissortail Park with a donation during #GivingTuesdayNow, no matter the size, this vital support will help us maintain our gardens and grounds in the weeks and months to come

We are so grateful for all our current and past supporters for partnering with Scissortail Park in such wonderful ways. We appreciate you!
