The Scissortail Park Foundation, the nonprofit organization that will manage Scissortail Park, announced the first private gift for The Park at a ceremony Friday, September 14.
The gift, which will help establish the Scissortail Park Foundation Endowment Fund with the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, was made by Mayor David Holt in honor of his parents Mary Ann Fuller Holt and Stroud Holt. In recognition of the Mayor’s gift, a garden room with a trellis feature in the northwest corner of The Park will be named the Mary Ann and Stroud Holt Garden.
“I feel honored to have the opportunity to help establish the endowment fund for this incredible addition to our city,” said Mayor Holt. “Scissortail Park is going to be world-class and a special place in our community. I hope and expect much more private support to follow as we begin the countdown to The Park’s opening.”
The Scissortail Park Foundation Endowment Fund will provide permanent and lasting support for the future sustainability of Scissortail Park for purposes including educational programming, cultural events and activities that engage individuals and families of all ages. The Scissortail Park Foundation views the endowment as a signal to the community that the Foundation values fiscal responsibility and seeks to build this endowment fund to help provide for the future of Scissortail Park.
“Pennies from the citizens of Oklahoma City built The Park, and the establishment of the endowment and its growth will help us maintain The Park at a high level for years to come,” said Maureen Heffernan, Executive Director of Scissortail Park. “We hope corporations and individuals will also consider making a contribution to the endowment in their or someone else’s name.”
Construction at The Park is progressing on schedule with an anticipated opening date in June 2019.
Scissortail Park, a MAPS 3 Project that will be operated and managed by Scissortail Park Foundation, a 501 c 3 nonprofit is a 70-acre public space opening in June of 2019. The Park, located south of the Myriad Botanical Gardens, continues to the shore of the Oklahoma River and will feature a number of engaging experiences for attendees including ornamental gardens and woodlands, 3.7 acre lake and boathouse, children’s playground and interactive fountains, picnic grove, restaurant and stage.
